State-by-state status

Online vet by state — where RexVet is licensed

Veterinary practice is regulated state-by-state. A veterinarian can only treat a pet that's physically located in a state where the vet holds an active license. RexVet currently has licensed veterinarians practicing in three states. Here's the full status of all 50.

These states permit veterinary telehealth in some form, and we're working toward licensing our veterinary team there. Click through for the state's regulatory note + our waitlist signup.

⚠ On watchlist — restrictive law (12 states)

These states maintain strict in-person-first VCPR requirements that significantly limit veterinary telehealth scope. We monitor regulatory changes; click through for each state's note.

Why veterinary licensing works state-by-state

Unlike some human medical specialties (telepsychiatry under certain interstate compacts, for example), there is no nationwide veterinary licensing reciprocity. Each state's Board of Veterinary Medicine sets its own rules for who can practice, what constitutes a valid veterinarian-client-patient relationship (VCPR), and what telemedicine is permitted within that VCPR.

That means even a board-certified DVM with 20 years of experience must obtain a license in each new state before treating a pet that's physically located there. For RexVet, the limiting factor on expansion is rarely demand — it's the time and cost of credentialing our veterinary team in additional jurisdictions plus building the case-volume infrastructure to support each new state at scale.
