Online Vet FAQs
What is an online vet?
An online vet (or virtual vet) is a licensed veterinarian you consult over a secure video call instead of visiting a clinic in person. On RexVet, you connect with a licensed vet who can assess your pet's symptoms, answer questions, recommend treatment, and prescribe medication when appropriate — all from home.
Can an online vet prescribe medication?
Yes. A licensed online vet can prescribe medication once a valid veterinarian-client-patient relationship (VCPR) is established during your visit, in line with each state's telehealth rules. RexVet vets can issue prescriptions and have them filled through RexVetRx with delivery to your door or local pharmacy pickup.
How much does an online vet cost?
RexVet visits start at $64.99 — roughly half the cost of a typical in-person visit ($150–$350). Our Family Plan is $120/year and includes 4 visits plus unlimited messaging for all your pets. Because RexVet is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, we keep prices low instead of generating shareholder returns.
Are online vets legit?
Yes. RexVet's veterinarians are fully licensed in the states they serve and bound by the same professional and ethical standards as in-clinic vets. RexVet is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit with Platinum Transparency 2025 and Top-Rated Non-Profit 2025 recognition on Candid, and a 4.9-star rating from 8,300+ pet parents.
What can an online vet treat?
Online vets are well-suited to skin issues and allergies, digestive upset, urinary concerns, eye and ear infections, anxiety and behavior questions, parasite prevention, medication refills, second opinions, and triage. For true emergencies or anything needing a hands-on exam, your RexVet vet will guide you to the nearest in-person or emergency clinic.
