Cytopoint for Dogs

Cytopoint is a prescription injection that controls itch from atopic dermatitis in dogs. One injection lasts 4-8 weeks, making it a popular alternative to daily Apoquel.

What Cytopoint is used for in dogs

  • Itching from atopic dermatitis
  • Allergic skin disease
  • Chronic itch unresponsive to other treatments

How it works

Cytopoint is a monoclonal antibody that neutralizes IL-31, the cytokine that triggers the itch signal in dogs. It works only on dog IL-31, so it has a very targeted, gentle profile.

Frequently asked questions

How long does Cytopoint last?

Most dogs get 4-8 weeks of itch relief per injection. Some get less; rare dogs respond longer.

Cytopoint vs Apoquel?

Cytopoint is a monthly injection at the vet; Apoquel is a daily oral pill at home. Cytopoint is targeted at the IL-31 itch pathway; Apoquel blocks JAK enzymes more broadly. Many dogs do well on either; some respond better to one.

Is Cytopoint safe long-term?

Yes — Cytopoint has a strong safety profile and is approved for long-term use. Because it's targeted, it doesn't broadly suppress the immune system.

Can RexVet prescribe Cytopoint?

Cytopoint must be administered by a vet (it's injectable). RexVet can advise whether Cytopoint is a fit for your dog and refer you to an in-person clinic for the injection.

Can I combine Cytopoint with Apoquel?

Some vets do combine them for severe cases, especially during transitions. Always under vet supervision.
